2009 Cadillac CTS-V at the track.

New postby z32drifter » Sat Jun 06, 2009 10:46 pm

I found this video on the Cadillac forums. 2009 CTS-V putting the hurt on a traction limited, built C6 Z06. The Cadillac is an automatic trans model with a flash and drag-radials, the 6spds should be even quicker.

Those Caddy's are B to the A. Interestingly, one of my recent magazines (R&T or MT) said the CTS-V actually had better steering feel than the current gen M5.

They make plenty of good power. But have you seen this video of streetfire's "cjonesy" have some trouble with his CTS-V.Also my friend's mom that drives a CTS-V stock, has to get a new tranny too. So I think reliability for this car isn't that great. That's my 2 cents.

usually Cadillac does pretty well in reliability... But that typically is normal driving reliability.

I couldn't be bothered to watch more than two minutes of that video. What was the diagnosis? And why did he continue to drive - and floor - it after it bucked violently, blew white smoke out the tailpipe, died on him, and then restarted but ran horribly?

As for the gearbox in your friend's mom's car - auto or manual? I know there was much ado about rear diffs in the first gen cars.

He was just trying to make it home I believe. I think he kept trying to floor it because he wanted to stress enough to the viewers that the car is in such bad shape. He did eventually make it home. The motor was idling like a bitch so much that you could sit in the car and it could simulate a small earthquake.

The tranny is an auto. I'm not sure what year it is.

It would have to be an 09, the CTS-V was 6spd only until 2009.

This guy is just a tool, he won't be happy with anything. His problem is not exclusive to Cadillac. Every brand out there has one of those cars that is a challenge to fix. Working for VW I've had my share of weird problems. I've kept cars for weeks to properly diagnose and repair them.

apparently the car will do 190+..... at least according to this video. With a little more balls the car might have hit 200.

Guess all the above explains why Ted (The people that've been around, know who I'm talking about) bought one to add to his stable... In addition to his GSR-T, A-X built Del Sol, S2000 and Porsche.

'Course, Ted's a 50-something doctor and auto enthusiast who can probably out-drive most people on a course.

my old man has an '05 V. he is in a debate with himself to send it to lingenfelter and do the 427 LS7 upgrade (620hp/570TQ) or buy the new 09. he prefers the look of the older body style as he says it doesnt have as much "fluff" to it. (interior and exterior) the lingenfelter kit will be cheaper and yield close to the same power as a modded 09 plus his will be a 6-speed until the new V comes out in the 6-speed. I'm trying to find which one is lighter. cost of the lingenfelter kit is $27,495. he could mod the 05 on top of the lingenfelter kit and still come out less than buying the new V. what do you guys think?

I would inquire as to what Katech (specifically a value 427 shortblock with LS7 heads) and LG Motorsports would charge to do the same thing. The LS7 is probably not a good choice of motor for that car. You don't need a dry sump in it, and its very expensive compared to a more normal 7.0L motor. Oh, and they're also time bombs.

I agree, 27k is a shitload of money and there is really no reason to get an LS7 in specific.

Grant, what does Katech charge for a setup like yours? Have you seen their CF valve covers? I don't know what the stock ones weigh, but I wonder if it saves any significant amount of weight.

EDIT: GM stage 3 cam: 233 / 276 @ .050, .630 / .630 lift, 107 LSA. That's a pretty freaking monster cam, Jesus. Is that even streetable? What kind of power do they claim you should make with that setup?

The only reason to send anything to ligenfelter to build is because you have too much money and just want to say ligenfelter built it. Like grant said there are cheaper and better alternatives to achieve the same cubic inches and power. There is also an abundance of lsx shops in your area that will do all the work for a reasonable price.

As far as not getting a new cts-v because of styling, he needs to Look into it a little more. The car is a different monster all together. I think he needs to test drive or do more research before making a decision. There's nothing wrong with keeping his current cts because he likes the looks though.
