Meh, its just a motor. Plenty of shops (like these guys) can produce reliable packages, they just don't self-identify as "tuners". The Ricardo transaxle is really good though. Despite its weight and cost, some people use them in mid-engined kit and race cars because its one of the few out there that hold power well (though I think some more options are becoming available).

A good engineer won't let pesky things like 'Tooling' or 'Budgets' stand in his way. And considering most Tuner Shops might not have unlimited funding, their engineering usually doesn't have to be approved by a beancounter
